Real life got in the way a little bit the past two weeks or so, but my first video is finally done! It's currently "processing" on YouTube as we speak, and once it's done, I'll be linking it in the VIDEOS page! I still need to figure out a proper layout in there, but I only have one video right now, so that's a problem for another day!
I gotta say, I definitely bit off more than I could chew with this one; I really, really didn't realize the minutiae that video editing on this kind of scale entails. Trust me to make my first published video an HOUR long! It has to be said, I have a habit of accidentally diving into the deep end with new things; first time I got a tattoo, do you think I was smart enough to start small? No, of course not. I got a fully colored and shaded piece that takes up two-thirds of my forearm, and was in the chair for four and a half hours. And I'm not the biggest fan of needles you'll meet. But hey, sink or swim, right? I need to whip up the description and chapter timestamps as I'm writing this; would have done that already, but I had to make some post-render trims in YouTube Studio and I need to wait for that to propagate on their side before I can mark the timestamps accurately. Which is a pain, but that's what we call a learning experience, baby! Which is pretty much how I'm trying to think of this whole thing. Is the video perfect? Nah, no such thing. But! It's as good as I could make it, and it was definitely a massive learning experience. Mostly for things not to do, but that's just as good! I think. Good GOD YouTube processing takes forever. Jeez. Anyway, while that's still going on, I'll add to this a bit; first, if you haven't seen it, the video! I won't say much, but after getting a core memory unlocked by someone else on YouTube, I went back and found an .iso of a Microsoft "Interactive CD Sampler" from back in '96. I used to play with it as a kid (several years after '96 mind you, I'm not THAT old) and firing it up again now gave me a lot to think/talk about. The idea was that this would be a "shorter, quicker video" in the interim while I plug away at a bigger project (which I might need to re-tool due to recent events -- more on that another time) and yet...well, I already mentioned the runtime. I really gotta learn how to "scale down" one of these days, probably; at least I'm fortunate enough to live in an era where not being able to stop talking about something can be repurposed for entertainment value! So what's next? Hopefully a video that's actually simpler and shorter in execution; I won't give it away, but it's got to do with the spooky season, Canadian children, and an author with two first initials....no, not that one. The other one. The other other one. I also want to get the RESOURCES page built up a bit, and hop on stream again at some point. So much I wanna do, so little time to do it. Or at least that's how it feels when I'm not waiting for YouTube to get its shit together. I'll leave it there for right now, though. But before I do, two quick asides: first, much thanks to Dax for being the first one to sign my guestbook! You da man! Second, there's still an open ballot on the POLLS page! Thanks to all those who have already thrown in their votes; can't say I'm too surprised at the results thus far, but we'll see how the needle moves with time. That's all for now! EDIT: WE'RE OFFICIALLY LIVE! My first video is now public on YouTube! You can click the thumbnail on the VIDEOS page to see it! |
